One of my favorite things to capture at weddings are the details. While sometimes overlooked, these are the items that you and your love have put your heart and soul into choosing to make your day truly yours. Hours of thought, Pinterest perusing, and consulting went into choosing the best floral arrangements, the perfect style of wedding bands, and the shoes that tie the whole look together.
Guests at your wedding might not get a chance to see your rings up close and personal, nor may they remember what your bouquet looked like on the big day or be able to place the expensive perfume they caught of whiff of when they hugged you congratulations, but detail shots can make all of these things unforgettable! Together with the photos of you and your beloved, detail shots round out your gallery to show a whole vision of your wedding day.
Now that we agree on the importance of detail shots, it’s ideal if you gather detail items for me to shoot when I arrive on your big day. Not only are you guaranteed to get the detail shots you have seen and loved in my galleries, it gives me something to work on when I first arrive if you aren’t ready to be the center of attention just yet.
What items are perfect for detail shots, you wonder? I’m so glad you asked! Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
For the Bride:
- wedding shoes
- engagement ring / wedding band / box
- wedding invitation
For the Groom:
- beard oil
- wedding band / box
- tie clip
Also consider including anything really personal to either of you or to the two of you together. If you wrote each other sweet hand written notes, leave them out for me to grab a shot of under your rings. If you have any friends or family who you want to be sure and honor, have a photo ready for me to photograph. Gorgeous captures of all of the little pieces that put together the big picture of your wedding day will be heirloom items for your family for generations.
